Inside: McDonald's

Watching Inside: McDonald's, I was interested by the astonishing facts that were presented throughout the film. McDonald's has more employees than a combination of the Army, Navy, Marines, and US Air Force. (Inside: McDonald's) I was really surprised to hear this. McDonald’s is truly taking over the nation. Not to mention that on a daily basis, over 25 million people eat at a McDonald’s. (Inside: McDonald's) About 317.5 million people make up the United States population; meaning that about 12.7% of the population eats at McDonald’s on a daily basis. Since I barley go to McDonald’s (sometimes we go a few times a year, when we are traveling) I couldn’t believe that 12.7% of the United States population goes to a McDonald’s everyday. How does McDonald's attract such a large population of customers? Since McDonald’s is fast, and easy – drive thru – it makes some sense. I’m curious to know the percentage of the United States population that eats from a fast food establishment (McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s etc....) on a daily basis.

Have you ever worked in the food industry? I haven't worked in the food industry; however, 1:8 Americans have worked at McDonald's. (Inside: McDonald's) With a population of 317.5 million people, that means that about 39.6875 million people will work at a McDonald's.

As I continued to watch the film, I was able to further connect all the facts together. More Americans visit McDonald’s than any other chain, of any kind. (Inside: McDonald's) How is that more people visit McDonald’s than they do Wal-Mart or a different chain such as Target?! As someone who loves Target, I could easily go their everyday; they have everything you would ever need...clothes, food, household items, school supplies, crafts etc.... I wonder why so many people choose to eat from McDonald's, instead going to Target or another store and purchasing food to make at home?

  1. WOW! That is amazing that McDonald's has more employees than the navy, army, marines, and air force combined. Also, 12.7 % of Americans go to McDonald's every day? Are you kidding me?! Wow this post is very shocking to me. I also don't eat at McDonald's at all and can't believe all of these facts.

  2. I had no idea they had the military beat in terms of employment. I don't think I'll be going to McDonald's again, considering all that we've learned!

  3. I had no idea that more people go to McDonalds in a day than they go to Walmart, it shows that we put so much emphasis on fast food and the fact that it is fast and we can get to it rather than even go to Walmart and get what we can that is fresh. I really want to share this documentary with my sisters, they might finally understand why I don't like McDonalds.

  4. I am one of those people that often eats at McDonalds, mainly because it is always so convenient. They don't call it fast food for nothing. It does kind of put things in perspective when you see statistics based around the number of people that eat at McDonalds.

  5. For the last two years, I've worked really hard at trying to avoid eating fast food. Of course, there were some days that the convenience won me over, but for the most part, I held strong and resisted. I cannot imagine what it would be like to eat at McDonald's everyday, considering that I usually feel awful after eating there once every 3 months or so! Yuck. I'm astounded at those statistics!

  6. I can't even imagine going to any restaurant, let alone McDonald's, every day. Then the fact that there are more McDonald's "employees than a combination of the Army, Navy, Marines, and US Air Force". What?! A "Combination" of all them isn't enough to compare to the amount of people that work for McDonald's? That is just crazy for me to think about.

  7. I watched this video too. It was crazy to me of how many employees there are right now that makes up more than Army and Navy. It was also interesting to hear about Hamburger University because I've never heard of it. I guess its cool that they train their employees but whenever I go to fast food restaurants, it seems like they never were trained.

  8. Wow! That is amazing that the number of employees that work at a McDonald's than the US Military! Unbelievable. I also found it interesting that you mention 1:8 US citizens work just at McDonalds, and I know that many US citizens have worked in the food industry. I find it amazing that many of the food industry employees work at McDonalds
